After a break-in the priority is making the building secure tonight. The insurance claim, the replacement glass and the proper repair can all wait until tomorrow. An open door or a broken window cannot.
I board up damaged doors and windows and fit temporary locks so the property is closed up and you can leave it. If your door has been forced, I will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired or whether the frame has gone.
I will also write down what I found and what I did, because your insurer will ask, and it is much easier to have that at the time than to reconstruct it a week later.
You probably need this if
- You have been broken into and a door or window is damaged
- Glass has gone and the property cannot be left as it is
- A door has been forced and will no longer lock
- Storm or accident damage has left the building open
- You are a landlord or agent with a property that needs securing
What happens
- I make the property secure so it can be left
- I fit temporary locks where a door will no longer lock
- I tell you what can be repaired and what has to be replaced
- I give you a written note of the damage and the work for your insurer
